Adaptive System Design explores how systems behave in the real world, preserves what happened, and transforms that evidence into knowledge that can improve the next design.
Purpose
ASD treats real-world interaction as engineering evidence. Accessibility barriers, unexpected behavior, component limitations, successful adaptations, and failed assumptions can all reveal properties of a system that conventional evaluation may miss.
Those observations become more useful when they are documented, tested, compared, and preserved. The goal is not simply to identify a problem, but to create reusable knowledge that can inform accessible systems and future designs.
Method

Compare approaches, constraints, failures, adaptations, and unexpected outcomes.

Assistive system
PK-OS is an assistive personal knowledge operating system developed within Adaptive System Design. It is designed to reduce executive-function barriers by preserving context, organizing evidence, supporting continuity, and helping important work survive interruption.
Rather than treating accessibility as an add-on, PK-OS uses adaptive behavior, provenance, structured workflows, and barrier reduction as core system requirements. It is also a working testbed for ASD principles in real-world use.
Skunkworks
SRCo is the skunkworks function within Adaptive System Design. It turns curiosity into physical evidence through acquisition, interaction, testing, and documentation.
ASD transforms that evidence into reusable engineering knowledge. The experiment can be valuable even before a final product, service, or application has been defined.
Design principles
Disability can expose system properties that are otherwise difficult to observe.
Evidence is strongest when the conditions, source, outcome, and uncertainty remain attached.
Good systems remove avoidable cognitive and physical friction before it becomes a failure point.
